On November 8th, the public welfare documentary "The Power of Endeavour" focusing on the development of China automobile industry was officially launched. The film was produced by China Automobile Industry Association and jointly released by Xinhuanet and China Automobile News. By telling the stories of generations of automobile practitioners, it reproduces the development process of China automobile from small to large and from big to strong.

In the first episode of "Quality", the film crew walked into the production line of Geely, Changan, Chery and other independent brand car companies, and through dialogue with employees working in different positions, listened to the experience of car owners and the views of industry professionals, presented the unremitting efforts made by China’s independent brand car companies in the pursuit of quality improvement.

The film begins with two self-owned brand old cars "Changan Benben" and "Geely Freedom Ship" that have been in operation for more than ten years. The owner shared that these two cars have spent quite a long time with their owners, but they have also encountered various problems in the use process: Changan Benben seat has collapsed, and it is difficult to start the cold car; The bearing, engine and clutch of Geely Freedom Ship are broken all over. This is the overall level of self-owned brand cars in the initial stage, and there are still many ways to improve their quality in the future.

What if the foundation is weak and the technology is poor? We can only improve the quality by repeated study and research. The camera came to Geely Automobile Hangzhou Bay Factory. Cheng Wen ‘an, the general manager, recalled that even painting was a challenge at first. The sprayed two-color paint had burrs and taxi drivers disliked it. Later, he bought more than a dozen different types of adhesive tapes for painting, and conducted hundreds of tests. He also tried the baking rhythm repeatedly, and finally got the approval of users, which also helped Geely receive a large number of taxi orders. Today, Geely has completed the upgrade of intelligent data management, and the quality control has also been completed from point to surface to system, completing a "qualitative" leap.

Emulsification of engine oil still plagues many international brands. Wu Shunhong, the senior manager of Chang ‘an Experimental Testing Institute, also suffered from this problem. Through investigation and testing, he found that this phenomenon is more likely to occur when the temperature in Northeast China is low and the commuting distance is short. But it was spring at that time, so they came to the plateau of Kunlun Mountain, more than 5000 meters, and did a 24-hour long-term test, and finally solved this problem. Later, Chang ‘an specially set up a low-temperature environment warehouse, and every car had to undergo a low-temperature test, and oil emulsification never appeared again.

The engine is the core component of a car. Today, Chery has provided a lifetime warranty for all models of engines. Sui Xikui, the development engineer of Chery’s automobile power reliability, was quite embarrassed when he recalled to the camera that Chery had originally built the engine: "Oil leaked and water leaked" and "Two kilograms of engine oil needed to be replenished after testing for 10 hours". It is on this basis that Chery engine has continuously improved its technology and various parameters, and now it has traveled 300,000 kilometers, and the wear of key components of the engine such as piston and bearing bush is less than one tenth of a millimeter.

Nowadays, the self-owned brand cars have completed the transformation from "Made in China" to "Made in China". In the program, Cai Ming, then general manager of China Automotive Products Division of J.D.Power, said that from 2000 to 2021, the gap of PP100 (average number of problems per 100 vehicles) between independent automobile brands and international brands was reduced from 396 to 5.
