China news agency, Beijing, May 9 (Reporter Pang Wuji) The Ministry of Land and Resources of China released a message on the 9th, saying that after the landslide occurred in Taining County, Fujian Province, the Geological Disaster Emergency Management Office of the Ministry of Land and Resources urgently issued the Letter on Doing a Good Job in the Prevention of Current Geological Disasters, asking all localities to do a good job in the prevention of geological disasters, especially to prevent secondary geological disasters caused by floods and engineering activities, and to take compulsory avoidance measures when necessary to ensure the safety of people’s lives in the first place.
On May 8, a landslide occurred in a hydropower construction site in Taining County, Fujian Province. As of 20: 00 pm on the 8 th, 41 people lost contact.
On the same day, led by the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (National Disaster Reduction Committee), the Ministry of Water Resources (National Defense Office), the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and the State Administration of Work Safety established the the State Council Working Group. Members of the working group rushed to the disaster site one after another.
The Ministry of Land and Resources launched the Class II emergency response to geological disasters at the first time. The expert group has rushed to the disaster site to provide technical support, assist and guide local governments to carry out emergency investigations of geological disasters, further strengthen the investigation of hidden dangers, and prevent secondary disasters.
The Office of Geological Disaster Emergency Management of the Ministry of Land and Resources pointed out that China has entered the main flood season, and the situation of geological disaster prevention and control is extremely severe due to frequent extreme weather and intensified human engineering activities. All localities should pay close attention to the changes in the scope and intensity of heavy rainfall, and earnestly do a good job in preventing secondary geological disasters caused by floods.
In addition, the Ministry of Land and Resources requires all localities to quickly deploy a comprehensive investigation of hidden dangers of important geological disasters. It is necessary to further strengthen the investigation of hidden dangers of geological disasters in tourist areas, migrant workers’ residential areas, office areas of construction sites and workers’ residential areas, and earnestly implement emergency plans for hidden dangers.
