Cctv newsOn September 7th, the State Council Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism held a press conference on further improving epidemic prevention and control and vaccination.
Wang Huaqing, chief expert of immunization program of China CDC, said that in the early period of COVID-19 epidemic, the infection rate of children was relatively low. At present, with the global pandemic of COVID-19, especially in some countries, the infection rate of children is rising. There are three main reasons for the rising:
First, Delta virus strain has become the dominant epidemic strain in many countries. Delta virus strain is very contagious, which means that if there is a source of infection now, it will spread more susceptible people.
Second, because vaccination started from the elderly and key groups, children’s vaccination has not been formally included in the agenda, or vaccination is late, so the proportion of children with immunity is relatively small now.
Third, the current prevention and control measures have been adjusted, including the relaxation of non-vaccine prevention and control measures, which has led to an increase in the current infection rate of children.
In view of the increasing infection of children, many countries have taken vaccination measures, including our country, which has also put the vaccination of children and adolescents on the agenda, and is currently carrying out vaccination in a step-by-step, focused and scientific manner.
